Black PVD Coating

Black continues to be one of the most popular colors on many consumer products including home hardware, kitchen and bath fixtures, automotive components, firearms, luxury goods, and more – and consumers are often willing to pay a premium for black metallic coatings on these products.

Black PVD Coating

Applying black metallic coatings has historically been extremely difficult because there are no naturally occurring black ceramic or metallic materials. Many coating developers deposit soft, non-ceramic black particles (such as graphite) into harder materials. The size and distribution of these particles help the film coating absorb light, but the process requires complex controls (and often produce a yellowish tinge). Furthermore, with some techniques, the impurities added to the coating material result in a soft, less durable coating. These inferior coatings may degrade over time.

VaporTech® black PVD coatings eliminate these issues. They are not only visually impressive but also add a durable layer of protection to parts and products. This black coating produces shades of black using  physical vapor deposition (PVD).

VaporTech Black PVD Coatings

To help your company meet consumer demand, proprietary VaporTech systems create the black coatings consumers prefer. Our systems deposit a deep, dark color as well as shades of dark grays and graphite.  These coatings are perfect for a broad range of products including home hardware, plumbing products, sports equipment and firearms, medical devices, automotive components, and other consumer products.

What PVD coating equipment do I need to make black PVD coatings?

The key to depositing these finishes is our patented Low-Temperature Arc Vapor Deposition (LTAVD®) process. The VaporTech VTi-Series PVD systems use this technology to create our black coating and the many vibrant colors that consumers seek. Our systems coat with both physical vapor depositing (PVD) and diamond-like carbon (DLC) finishes.
